Our Story

Serving the Church for Over a Century

Reger’s story began in 1921, when John A. Reger founded The John A. Reger Company by opening Reger’s Church Supplies and Religious Articles on Cherry Street in Downtown Toledo. From the very beginning, the mission was clear: to faithfully serve churches, schools, and the Christian community with reverence, reliability, and personal care.

By 1945, John’s son, Joseph Reger, assumed ownership of the company. Shortly thereafter, John’s brothers returned home from service in World War II and joined in operating the business. Their shared diligence and commitment fueled growth, leading to the opening of a second location on Madison Avenue in 1950. This new decade also marked the beginning of a cherished tradition—the annual Reger's Catalog, which continues to connect us with customers near and far.

A Downtown Landmark

In 1967, the original Cherry Street store was relocated to Erie Street, becoming a familiar and beloved Downtown Toledo landmark. As operations evolved, the Madison Avenue store closed in the early 1980s, allowing the company to centralize its services on Erie Street. From the heart of downtown, Reger’s continued serving generations of faithful customers—many of whom still fondly remember their visits to our historic location.

Growth and Expansion

The 1990s brought necessary change and new opportunity. In November 1997, Reger’s opened its doors at 4100 Secor Road in West Toledo. This move provided much-needed space, including a large retail showroom, open offices, and a dedicated shipping department and warehouse—positioning the company for continued growth.

In 2005, Joe Holmes purchased Reger’s and ushered in a new chapter. Under his leadership, the company expanded its reach through church supply delivery routes, strengthening relationships with parishes and institutions throughout the region while maintaining Reger’s longstanding commitment to personal service.

Our Home Today

Blessed with continued growth, Reger’s eventually outgrew the Secor Road location. In the winter of 2024, the company relocated to 1220 Ford Street in Maumee, Ohio, where we proudly operate today. This move allows us to better serve our customers with expanded space, improved logistics, and a team that truly feels like family.

In September 2025, Gavin Majikas and his wife, Ava Majikas, purchased Reger’s, becoming the next stewards of this historic business. With deep respect for its legacy, they are committed to maintaining Reger’s traditions while thoughtfully guiding it into the future—working closely under the mentorship of Joe Holmes and Steve Grier during the transition years.

Looking Forward

Today, Reger’s Church Supplies & Religious Gifts remains as committed as ever to serving each and every customer with Christian joy, enthusiasm, and respect for tradition. While much has changed since 1921, our purpose remains the same: to faithfully support the Church and those who serve it—today and for generations to come.
