Product Overview
The San Damiano Crucifix is one of the most revered images in Catholic sacred art. It is the cross before which St. Francis of Assisi heard Christ speak the words, "Go, rebuild my Church," a moment that launched the Franciscan movement and changed the course of Church history. This freestanding reproduction from the Veronese Collection by Goldscheider renders that iconic image in cold-cast bronze, capturing the theological richness of the original with museum-quality craftsmanship.
At 7" wide and 14" tall, this piece commands a meaningful presence on a home altar, chapel shelf, office desk, or prayer corner without requiring any wall mounting. The cold-cast bronze finish delivers the weight and gravitas of traditional bronze sculpture at a practical size and price point. Each detail of the original San Damiano iconography is faithfully reproduced, including the triumphant, reigning Christ figure that distinguishes this cross from a standard crucifix.
Intended Audience
This crucifix is a natural fit for anyone with a devotion to St. Francis of Assisi or the Franciscan tradition, including:

- Catholic families building or furnishing a home altar or prayer space
- Clergy and religious seeking a meaningful piece for their personal chapel or office
- Collectors of Catholic sacred art and Veronese Collection pieces

It also makes a thoughtful gift for feast days, ordinations, diaconate milestones, priestly anniversaries, and the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the San Damiano Crucifix different from a standard crucifix?
The San Damiano cross is an icon-style crucifix rooted in the Byzantine tradition. Rather than depicting Christ in suffering, it shows Him reigning triumphantly on the cross, with eyes open and a serene expression. The cross also includes surrounding figures from the Passion narrative, making it a theologically layered image that reflects both the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.
Is this piece suitable for wall mounting?
This version is designed as a freestanding tabletop piece and does not include wall-mounting hardware. It stands independently on any flat, stable surface. If you are looking for a wall-mounted San Damiano crucifix, please browse our full crucifix collection.
What is cold-cast bronze?
Cold-cast bronze is a composite material made by blending real bronze powder with a resin binder and casting it in a mold. The result closely resembles traditional solid bronze in appearance, texture, and weight, but is produced at a fraction of the cost. It is the standard material used in the Veronese Collection by Goldscheider for faithful, durable reproductions of sacred art.
How do I care for this piece?
Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid moisture, harsh chemicals, and abrasive cleaners, which can damage the cold-cast bronze surface. No special maintenance is required for normal indoor display.
Is this an officially licensed reproduction?
This piece is produced by Goldscheider under the Veronese Collection brand, which specializes in high-quality reproductions of Catholic and classical sacred art. Goldscheider is a well-established name in decorative and religious sculpture with a long heritage in European artistic tradition.
