FAQs
What is Lectio Divina?
Lectio Divina is an ancient Catholic and monastic practice of praying with Scripture. It involves four movements: reading a passage slowly (Lectio), reflecting on its meaning (Meditatio), responding to God in prayer (Oratio), and resting in His presence (Contemplatio). This guide walks readers through each step.
Is this guide suitable for beginners?
Yes. The St. Joseph Guide to Lectio Divina is written to be accessible for those who are new to the practice as well as those who want to refresh or deepen an existing prayer habit.
Is this a Bible, or a guide to using the Bible in prayer?
This is a devotional guide, not a Bible. It teaches the method and practice of Lectio Divina so that readers can apply it to their own Scripture reading.
Who publishes this book?
This book is published by Catholic Book Publishing Corp, the same publisher behind the widely used St. Joseph series of Catholic prayer books, missals, and devotional resources.
Is this appropriate as a gift?
Absolutely. It makes a warm and thoughtful gift for any adult Catholic who values prayer, Scripture, or spiritual growth. It is well suited for birthdays, name days, or any occasion where a meaningful faith-based gift is appropriate.
Can this be used in a group setting?
While designed primarily for personal prayer, the principles in this guide can certainly be shared and discussed in a small group, Bible study, or parish prayer circle.
