Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was a devoted member of the Visitation Order. In her Convent at Parlay-le-Monial, France, she was visited on several occasions by Christ Who instructed her to promote devotion to His Sacred Heart.
To this apostolate she dedicated the remaining years of her life. Her efforts met with violent opposition and she suffered much, but the liturgical cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with its admirable practice of the First Friday reception of Holy Communion, developed and prospered to the extent that it has become one of the most popular devotions of the Church.
Born in 1647, Saint Margaret Mary died in 1690. Her Feast is celebrated on October 17.
